If it is too small for you I suggest adding a battery grip. The kit 18-55mm lens is adequate, but get the IS version (see#16). I just use the kit lens for casual, indoor parties. The 18mm setting is OK for wide angle shots (minus the 1.6 crop factor which makes the kit lens a 28-90mm).

Buy new: $9.34 I like using the diffuser with my 430EX for bounce flashes & some direct flashes. It emits a softer light when directed at your subjects which is more comfortable for them (if your subjects are people). Overall it helps eliminate harsh shadows. The only downside is you might have to increase the flash compensation which might drain your flash batteries a little more faster.

Buy new: $229.90 Forget those plastic, department store tripods! Get a pro-style tripod with a separate head & legs. You can get either the Manfrotto 804RC2 head which is reasonably priced or a ball head. I actually used this head with a Benro Carbon-Fiber legs which are very similiar to the Gitzo tripod legs. The Bogen 804RC2 head also has a helpful, bubble level and a METAL quick-release.

Buy new: $172.03 / Used from: $113.50 Actually this lens is better than the stock lens the original XT & XTi came with because of the added IS (image stablization). Now it is offered as the kit lens for the new Canon XS & XSi. Good upgrade if you want to replace the original 18-55 kit lens!
