With two cameras around your neck one with the 18-50 and the other with this lens you'll have great close up capability while still retaining the ability to get "sniper" style shots of other guests. A great substitute for this lens is the Tokina 50-135 2.8. It's a superb performer and definately worth a look if you can afford it.

Buy new: $11.21 / Used from: $7.99 Great Accessory, provides awesome diffuse light and with the right photographer works as well as any lightsphere from gary fong. If you would like something a little simpler and more popular definately check out the lightsphere or the whale tail.

 | Sunpak Super 383 Flash
This is a very bright very powerful strobe but very manual. This is great as a spare but if possible borrow a canon flash from someone or if you can afford the 580 go for that again, if you have to go with the 430 or equivalent.
