![]() | Canon Digital Rebel XTi 10.1MP Digital SLR Camera (Black Body Only)
Buy new: $499.95 / Used from: $405.00 It's small, light (for a DSLR) and has a much better autofocus system than its predecessor. Custom settings may need some tweaking to get optimal results but for a travel body, there's nothing better on the Canon side of things.

![]() | Sigma AF 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS (Optical Stabilizer) Zoom Lens for Canon Digital SLR Cameras
Buy new: $365.36 / Used from: $420.00 An 18-200mm lens on a 1.6x crop camera like the XTi gives you an actual working range of 29-320mm. Unless you just absolutely love shooting wide angle, that's more than sufficient to cover just about anything you'll come across on vacation. Image stabilization (OS) makes getting shots at the long range easier.

![]() | Sigma 30mm f/1.4 EX DC HSM Lens for Canon Digital SLR Cameras
Buy new: $389.00 For indoor and evening shots, swap the zoom for one of these. It gives you a sharp lens at a normal range that you can use with available to dim light.

![]() | Canon 430EX Speedlite Flash for Canon Pro1, Pro 90, G Series and all EOS SLR Cameras
Buy new: $199.00 The fast Sigma 30mm is great for low light shots of individuals but not that good if you're trying to get a shot of multiple people that are at varying distances from the camera. If you think you'll take a lot of group shots in low light, find space for a flash. The 430EX is currently Canon's smallest and lightest.

![]() | Nikon D80 10.2MP Digital SLR Camera (Body only)
Buy new: Too low to display / Used from: $499.00 The D80 isn't the smallest camera in the Nikon lineup but I prefer it over the D40x because it has 11 autofocus points as opposed to just 3 for the D40x. Plus it's still sufficiently small and light to not be a huge burden on a trip.

![]() | Nikon 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 G ED-IF AF-S VR DX Zoom-Nikkor Lens
Buy new: $629.95 / Used from: $530.00 Nikon's own 18-200mm travel lens. With Nikon's 1.5x crop, you have a 27-300mm range that's aided by image stabilization (VR) on the long end. Plus this lens is a stop faster (5.6 compared to 6.3 on the Sigma) on the long end which is quite handy as well.

![]() | Sigma 30mm f/1.4 EX DC HSM Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras
Buy new: $391.93 Yup, Sigma makes these for Nikon too and it works just as well as the one for Canon.

![]() | Nikon SB-400 AF Speedlight for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras
Buy new: $99.99 / Used from: $90.00 Nikon's lightest and most compact flash will get the job done in most cases.
