Dark, twisted, and downright sick horror-mystery. I liked it, but I feel like it could have been a little better. I definitely loved all the Providence/Lovecraft references…the authors definitely did their homework. All in all a good mystery, with some surprising turnouts (but not a gigantic twist ending like the first in the series, HEADHUNTER). 1/3 - 1/29

Fun and crazy, with some truly intense scenes. Oddly enough, it's only Smiley Bone and Fone Bone in this one (Phoney Bone, Grandma Ben, etc. aren't in it)! I liked it a lot, though. 2/1 - 2/(sometime before the 10th)

I honestly was not nearly "into it" as I was hoping I was going to be; the dialogue and the mapping of sequences seem to take out the steam which really should have been building in it, like Miller's SIN CITY comics. Then again, I read it in preparation for the movie, and so naturally I've now got higher expectations for that. 2/13 - 2/26 4/10: And as it turns out, the movie *was* better!

I liked it - a lot. BUT, this was a solo novel from an author who normally writes with someone else, and it shows - I actually had a better character portrait of the main villain than I did the hero, and there were times (namely at the end) where the writing seemed a bit rushed. Mostly just editing nags - still a great, wild, imaginative read. 3/1 - 3/12.

I just *have* to know what happens next to Frank Grimes and company! As usual, top-notch writing and artwork, and as usual, I can't understand how hard it was for them to draw plaid shirts properly. Ends on a bit of a cliffhanger. Oh Volume Fou-our... 3/13 - 3/27

I've started and stopped reading this numerous times in the (way) past (what can I say? "I was young..."), but now I'm reading it and really getting intrigued. 4/1-4/9

I just couldn't get into this. The "olde English" prose that was thicker than pizza crust, the near-complete absence of periods on sentences which resulted in still further confusion about what the hell people were talking about, the scruffy, frequently hard-to-understand-just-what-the-hell-I'm-looking-at drawings...ehhhhh, not now, anyway. 4/10-4/12

Time to jump back into a good ol' King binge! I always enjoy reading his books, and this has long been one I've meant to read. Well, it's happening finally, and although I remember most of what I've read thus far, it's a whole lot more interesting this time around. 4/13-4/27 (4/27: I *LOVED* it!)

"The Statement of Randolph Carter." The story that introduces this recurring character who becomes key in the Dream Cycle. 4/28

It took me long enough to read this, and I was a little disappointed (see my review), but I'm glad I finally read it, and I did like it overall. 5/1-5/30

Sheesh, and I thought some of the stuff in LOST was amazing and horrible (in a great, fictional way). This is one hell of a depressing entry in the series, but made all the more engaging by ending with "To Be Continued..." NEXT! 6/11-6/25

Read the title story, in the 'Tales of the Cthulhu Mythos' collection. Although the climax was a little disappointing, the buildup to it was nothing short of CREEPY. 6/21

Read "The Black Stone" out of 'Tales of the Cthulhu Mythos.' Seriously creepy, and so much more graphic than I'd ever expect a story from its era to be. I liked it a lot. 6/22

Read "The Space-Eaters," by Frank Belknap Long, out of 'Tales of the Cthulhu Mythos.' Yet again: great buildup (the opening scene was downright CREEPY), cool ideas...and it ends on a whimper. What is up with this?! 6/29

Out of CTHULHU 2000, I re-read F. Paul Wilson's "The Barrens." I've read it before, and I enjoyed it a lot, but man, this time around is just...wow! One hell of a creepy and well-written yarn, with quite a memorable ending for a post-Lovecraft story! Natural for FPW. 7/6

Still in CTHULHU 2000, I read Poppy Z. Brite's "His Mouth Will Taste of Wormwood" - sensual and eerie, very interesting. 7/7
