I purchased the XTi, instead of the XT because of the larger, brighter 2.5 inch LCD screen.

I needed a backup battery (the XTi comes with one battery and a charger) and this kit came up. The Canon battery costs $50, a Canon 58mm UV Haze filter costs $13, and the camera bag costs $60. But this kit from AMAZON @ $65.99, not from another seller.

You will only need to purchase this lens if you want to do some Macro photography. On the XTi the 60mm translates to 96mm which is a short telephoto lens for general purpose or switch to macro and take lifesize pictures of flowers, bugs, ect. This is the lens I spluged on! Otherwise the kit lens and EF 50mm 1.8 will do just fine until you become more experienced and know what you want from a lens.

You need it. The kit lens will not get you great action, low light/night, or portrait pictures, but this lens will and for cheap. This is the lens I pull out when I need the picture to be sharp and clear. Great lens, great price.
