This nice lightweight camera comes with an excellent zoom lens 18 to 55 mm. But it does not come with the memory card, a cable to hook up to your TV, or the remote control. I already own an 8 mp Nikon coolpix that looks just like an SLR, and a wonderful little 12.1 mp Sony DSC-W200. Both are great, but honest: with just 6.1 mp the D40 is unbelievable! It runs rings around the others.

The cD40 of course has a built in strobe light, but this SB-400 is a great add on strobe. TTL naturally. Lets you bounce the light off the ceiling, which improves your indoor photography greatly.

You need one of these for the standard lens and a second one for the telephoto lens. Just to protect the lens from fingers, dog's noses, scratching, etc. Both lens take 52mm filters.

A circular polarizing filter is a great tool when you have bright sun and a blue sky. Well worth the money.

This is the simple remote sold by Nikon. It works great.

This will work on the D40. Just trim it down a little with a single edge razor after installing. I scratched up my display pretty good in less than a week!

This lens does not autofocus on the D40. But if you are doing close up work with the extension tubes this feature doesn't work anyway. This is an incredibly sharp lens and perfect for use with the Kenko extension tubes.

When you are doing extreme closeups using extension tubes, the focus on the lens has no effect. You have to move the camera closer or farther away. This little tool is invaluable.
