Kit lens purchased with Nikon D70s. Soft, decent for landscape type shots, don't really use this much, except on long backpacking trips where weight is a concern. Would probably instead go with the 18-200VR for a do-anything walkabout lens if starting from scratch.

Tricky to use... have to point it somewhere at the front of the camera.

Great for creative shots. No perfection here. Newer 3G with the screw mounts better for macro/detailed work.

The nikon 50mm f/1.8 should be sharper than this lens. I like fixed focus lenses for practicing composition, and this is smaller than the rest of my lenses. If you just want to get shots, modern zoom lenses are probably more useful.

Picked this up used. Excellent portrait lens with soft focus, especially in the f/2.8 - f/5.6 range. Not as handy as the 105mm macro, as has a long minimum focus distance.

Removes an annoying yellow cast from the lights in my apartment, though makes the images quite cold. D300 much better about white balance than the D70s, have not needed to use these on the D300.

Do almost all of my image editing in Aperture, only a little in Photoshop where more detailed or experimental work required.
