![]() | Canon EOS 5D Mark II 21.1MP Full Frame CMOS Digital SLR Camera (Body Only)
Buy new: $2,499.00 / Used from: $2,338.00 Great Camera if you want a full frame. Be careful, you can't use the 10-22 with this body. The only downside to this body is that the sync speed is 1/200 and switching between photo and video isn't so smooth. I light everything and would've loved to have that extra 1/50s so I have more lighting control. Test your sync speed, the 5D MkII I was using had some darkening at 1/200, so had to go 1/180.

![]() | Canon EOS 7D 18 MP CMOS Digital SLR Camera with 3-inch LCD (Body Only)
Buy new: $1,564.99 / Used from: $1,493.00 Full Frame or Not? Well I own the 7D, shot the 5D MkII and both are excellent cameras. I like that my 70-200 becomes a "300/2.8" with half the weight! I like the autofocus on the 7D compared to the 5D, the sync is faster at 1/250. I like the way you can switch easily into video mode with your thumb and without taking your eyes away from the viewfinder. You can't go wrong with either.

Buy new: $65.99 Don't get generic, the battery indicator doesn't register.
|
![]() | Canon BG-E7 Battery Grip for Canon Digital SLR Camera
Buy new: $179.95 Why shoot with your wrist off balance? The only time my grips come off my camera is when I want to shed some weight. Don't shoot a long lens vertically without this or you'll have blurring. Have you ever left your house without a CF Card? Well take off the battery cover from the body, buy a cheap CF Card and hide it in the slot in the grip, you'll see what I'm saying.

![]() | Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM Telephoto Zoom Lens for Canon SLR Cameras
Buy new: $1,899.00 / Used from: $1,750.00 My Favorite Go To Lens! Ultra Sharp and I end up reaching for this lens more than my the 24-70. Just learn to backup more (as you would moving back and forth with the 50mm's).
|
![]() | Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM Standard Zoom Lens for Canon SLR Cameras
Buy new: $1,354.00 / Used from: $1,000.00 Beautiful Lens! I've had the 70-200 and 24-70 since the film days and both have stood up to the test of quality and time.

![]() | Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC HSM Lens for Canon Digital SLR Cameras
Buy new: Too low to display I tried both the 10-20 by Canon (10-22) and Sigma and saw no difference, so went with Sigma. Plus, I put this on my 20D, throw it in my Clik backpack and hit the slopes and mtn biking. Took some MAJOR spills and both are working great. At least I know if I fall and have to replace this lens, it's not that bad.
|
![]() | Sigma 50mm f/1.4 EX DG HSM Lens for Canon Digital SLR Cameras
Buy new: $499.00 / Used from: $375.00 Sure the 50 1.2 is GREAT, but for the price, I couldn't justify it. I compare this to the original Canon 50 1.4 and the Sigma by far had better autofocus speeds and sharpness at 1.4. Costs a bit more, but I figure I took the savings from the Sigma 10-20 and put it into this one.

![]() | Canon Speedlite 580EX II Flash for Canon EOS Digital SLR Cameras
Buy new: $445.00 / Used from: $399.00 Hmm...a bit expensive but what can I say, it works great. However, going pocketwizard and off camera shooting, the SB-28 is just as good. The only thing the SB-28 can't do is go 128th power.

![]() | Manfrotto 6' Retractable 5 Section Lightstand with 5/8" Mounting Stud, Black Anodized. (#3373)
Buy new: $56.50 When you want portability, this is your solution. I can't put my Dynalite 2040 heads on here, but it's great to put my 550/580/sb-28's on in the field. Just be careful when you have a 60" umbrella with wind. Hang your camera bag on it if you're in that situation with the superclamp down low.

![]() | PocketWizard PWP-TR 801-125 PLUS II Transceiver (Black)
Buy new: $162.16 Don't go for the cheap chinese ebay triggers if you want reliability. I never have misfires (well I do, but it's because I didn't turn on the unit, or had it on the wrong channel! LOL) Called ID10T error.
|
![]() | Quantum Instruments QFX5DR TTL X5D Qflash Digital Flash System
Buy new: $769.00 If you shoot a wedding, then this is a must especially for the portable power and the external battery pack. It's almost like taking my Dynalite mx1000's with me.

![]() | B+W 77mm UVA (Ultra Violet) Haze MRC Filter #010
Buy new: $88.00 / Used from: $69.00 Protect your Lens! And don't put cheap glass in front of your expensive lens. Defeats the purpose of having nice glass.

Buy new: $157.04 / Used from: $132.22 |
![]() | Nikon SB 28 - Hot-shoe clip-on flash - 36 (m)
Buy used from: $169.00 Buy it used for under $100 and use with your pocketwizards. Shooting off camera, works just as good as the 580EXII. The only thing the SB-28 can't do is go 128th power. If it could, at under $100 on ebay, it's just as Great, if not better than the 580EXII.

![]() | Canon Pixma PRO9500MkII Inkjet Photo Printer (3298B002)
Buy new: $699.99 / Used from: $469.99 You wish you can print larger prints? Well here's your answer. I love this printer, but I'm still running on my Canon i9900 which is still running strong. I'm just waiting for it to die to give me an excuse to get the 9500 MkII.
|
![]() | Bogen - Manfrotto Super Clamp with Standard Stud
Buy new: $26.99 Who says you can't use flash in the gym? Just put this up in the bleachers with your flash and pocketwizard, you're good to go. Setup two on each end of the court, different channels and watch the difference on your images.
|
![]() | Spyder 3 Elite
Buy new: $220.00 / Used from: $250.00 Why's my prints coming out looking all funky colored? Well duh, it's because your monitor isn't calibrated. So how much do you spend on wasted ink (which by the way costs more than gold) and paper? You couldn have probably paid for this and more. Oh and don't just use it once and lock it away. Your monitor continually changes colors over time.
|
![]() | Wacom Intuos4 Medium Pen Tablet
Buy new: Too low to display / Used from: $289.00 This is a godsend if you're doing touch ups. Get used to cramped wrists and arms until you're used to it, but fight the power. Saves me tons of time and wouldn't know what to do without it. Who knows these shortcuts? CTRL +, CTRL -, CTRL 0, CTRL [, CTRL ], Well forget about it, you got the wheel and custom buttons for that.
|
![]() | Clik Elite CE400GR Small Compact Sport Pack (Gray)
Buy new: $150.00 You'll have to pull your grip off the body to put your camera in the slot, but I've taken terrible spills straight on my back and everything survived. It keeps the bad elements out of the compartment so it's great when I go hiking, mtn biking or snowboarding. I just have my Canon 20D w/Sigma 10-22 and 550EX and off I go. As for a minimalist pack for your adventures, this is the way to go.

![]() | Manfrotto 679B Monopod 3-Section Replaces 679 (Black)
Buy new: $49.90 You don't need a cf monopod or a giant 680B. Trust me, I had them all, I still have the 680B from the days when I shot the 400/2.8 and 300/2.8. Now that I don't use those giant guns anymore, I reach for my light (enough) 679B. The price of a cf monopod is ridiculous. But I think a monopod is essential for blur free images no matter what shutter speed you're shooting.
|
![]() | Gitzo GT3531 Series 3 6X Carbon Fiber 3-Section Tripod with G-Lcok - Replaces GT3530
Buy new: $799.90 / Used from: $599.99 Ok, I said cf monopod was ridiculous. But when it comes to a tripod, I wish I had it. I love Gitzo tripods and feel they're superior compared to Manfrotto tripods (but love their heads). I pretty much have this model, but AL version and it is ULTRA HEAVY. But don't get me wrong, you want those beautiful flowing water shots or twilight beach shots, you NEED a good tripod. There's no other way.
|
![]() | Black Rapid Strap RS7 Black Fabric, Curved Ergonomic, with ConnectR-2 and FastenR-2
Buy new: $59.00 Get rid of the stock strap and get this one. Works great, fits well and it's faster accessing the camera. Check out blackrapid.com for videos on how it works. Another secret here is to have the Canon Grip and get some paracord and tie it to the strap bar on the bottom using a figure 8 knot instead of the screw-in connector. That way you don't have keep taking it off to use a tripod or monopod.
