Nikon D200 Digital Field GuideNikon D200 Digital Field Guide by David D. Busch
Buy new: $13.59 / Used from: $1.76
This is my basic guidebook to the Nikon D200. Includes more in-depth information than the Nikon manual, with full color illustrations.
Nikon D200 10.2MP Digital SLR Camera (Body Only)Nikon D200 10.2MP Digital SLR Camera (Body Only)
Buy new: $799.98 / Used from: $695.00
If you already have Nikkor lenses, or want to buy your D200 with the exact lens you need, start with this body at a great price.
Giotto SP8255 AEGIS Screen Protector Nikon D200 Top and BottomGiotto SP8255 AEGIS Screen Protector Nikon D200 Top and Bottom
Buy new: $24.64
Set aside the D200's plastic LCD protector and install this set. Scratch-resistant, less glare, and improved view. Unlike some other third-party LCD protectors, this set comes with one for the top panel monochrome LCD, too.
Nikon SB-800 AF Speedlight Flash for Nikon Digital SLR CamerasNikon SB-800 AF Speedlight Flash for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras
Buy new: $339.99 / Used from: $319.00
Your pro-quality camera deserves a pro-quality flash with more power than the built-in unit. Commander mode lets you use this flash without cabling it to the D200, so you can place it anywhere for flexible lighting.
Nikon 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED IF AF-S DX VR Zoom Nikkor LensNikon 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED IF AF-S DX VR Zoom Nikkor Lens
Buy new: $198.00 / Used from: $155.94
Less expensive than the hard-to-find 18-200 VR lens, it provides shake-stopping vibration reduction at useful focal lengths, and really shines in for handholding your D200 for short and medium telephoto shots. Image quality is excellent.
Nikon MB-D200 Multi-Power Battery Pack for the D200 Digital CameraNikon MB-D200 Multi-Power Battery Pack for the D200 Digital Camera
Buy new: $158.88 / Used from: $129.99
Personally, I hate weighting my D200 down with this vertical grip/battery pack. If I want a heftier camera, I can use my D2x. However, I know lots of photographers who love this add-on. It is especially handy when you're shooting lots of portraits or other vertically-oriented shots, and the ability to use both additional EN-EL3e and AA batteries can stretch your shooting session out.
Nikon DK-21M Magnifying Eyepiece for Nikon D200 Digital CameraNikon DK-21M Magnifying Eyepiece for Nikon D200 Digital Camera
Buy new: $21.94
I put a DK-21M on my D200 a year ago, and have never removed it. Makes evaluating the scene in the viewfinder easier, and improves your ability to fine-tune focus. You may have to shift your eye around to view the readouts at the bottom of the viewfinder, but it's worth the effort.
NIKON MC30 Remote Cable Release (31.5 in)NIKON MC30 Remote Cable Release (31.5 in)
Buy new: $60.51
I don't go anywhere without my MC-30 remote cable. Sure, you can use the self-timer or MUp controls to shoot without joggling the camera, but the MC-30 lets you take your shot *now*, followed by more shots, with unmatched freedom from photographer-induced camera shake (assuming you're using a tripod, of course!)
Tokina Zoom Super Wide Angle AF 12-24mm f/4 AT-X 124AF Pro DX Lens + UV Filter + Lens Cleaning Kit for Nikon Digital CamerasTokina Zoom Super Wide Angle AF 12-24mm f/4 AT-X 124AF Pro DX Lens + UV Filter + Lens Cleaning Kit for Nikon Digital Cameras
I love my Nikkor 12-24mm zoom, but this Tokina model has virtually the same sharpness for half the price. If you yearn for a super-wide lens for your D200, but can't justify $1000, you'll be pleased with this lens.
Sigma APO 170-500mm F/5-6.3 DG Lens for Nikon SLR CamerasSigma APO 170-500mm F/5-6.3 DG Lens for Nikon SLR Cameras
Although not a "do-everything" lens like the 50-500mm "Bigma", it costs less. In three years of use, I've found its autofocus fast enough for sports; most of the baseball photos in my books were taken with this lens. It's big enough that I always use it with a monopod attached to its built-in collar. Otherwise, forget the rule of thumb: you'll need 1/2000th second to counter camera shake.
Manfrotto 694 4-Section MagFiber Monopod (Black)Manfrotto 694 4-Section MagFiber Monopod (Black)
Buy new: $172.99
This monopod is strong enough that I can use it as a cane for my gimpy leg (which makes it easier to tote into museums and such.) Considering that I use the monopod for 70-80 percent of my shots when I am not using VR, it's an excellent investment for concerts, sports, landscapes, architecture, and other types of photography.
Bogen-Manfrotto Three Section Black Monopod with 3232 Swivel Tilt Head.Bogen-Manfrotto Three Section Black Monopod with 3232 Swivel Tilt Head.
Buy new: $61.50
I also own this monopod with the 3232 swivel tilt head. The tilt head isn't essential (you can always just tilt the monopod), but I use it sometimes. I keep this rig in the trunk of my second car along with a Velbon tripod so I'll always have it. The Manfrotto 694 monopod and a Manfrotto 055 tripod lives in the trunk of my main vehicle.
