Nikon 50mm f/1.8D AF Nikkor Lens for Nikon Digital SLR CamerasNikon 50mm f/1.8D AF Nikkor Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras
Buy new: $109.95 / Used from: $99.99
The lens I've been lusting after for quite a while. Most reviewers have said that this lens is every bit as good as the 1.4 version for half the cost. Its regularly on backorder so if you see it available, snap it up while you can. Great portrait lens.

Buy new: $14.89 / Used from: $12.99
Not the best but the only one that works well with my D50. I use it mostly for outdoor shots in the early evening or anywhere the light is especially low and a steady tripod setup is necessary.
Nikon SB-600 Speedlight Flash for Nikon Digital SLR CamerasNikon SB-600 Speedlight Flash for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras
Buy new: $172.95 / Used from: $159.99
I admit, I still have a lot to learn about speedlight settings but using this one has opened up a whole new world of photography. Especially in daylight when I want an extra measure of fill light.
Nikon SB-400 AF Speedlight for Nikon Digital SLR CamerasNikon SB-400 AF Speedlight for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras
Buy new: $99.95 / Used from: $90.00
I've read on a lot of photography blogs that this is every bit as useful as my SB-600 but cheaper and much less weight.
Nikon EN-EL3a Rechargeable Lithium-Ion Battery Pack for D50, D70, D70s, and D100Nikon EN-EL3a Rechargeable Lithium-Ion Battery Pack for D50, D70, D70s, and D100
Buy new: $39.95 / Used from: $16.00
Buy an extra one. Heck, buy 2 extras. You never know when you might need a fully charged extra battery. I have 2 extras in my bag at all times.
The Digital Photography BookThe Digital Photography Book by Scott Kelby
Buy new: $11.99 / Used from: $10.99
This book helped me immensely. And its so easy to read. That's my main problem with photography books that are chock full of technical detail. Great stuff but I had an easier time reading Ulysses. Scott Kelby explains it better than anyone.
Sony Power Battery Charger with 4 AA Ni-MH Rechargeable BatteriesSony Power Battery Charger with 4 AA Ni-MH Rechargeable Batteries
Buy new: $17.15 / Used from: $24.99
If you use the speedlight, you'll go through a lot of batteries. Be green - go rechargeable. Its cheaper in the long run, too.
Jensen JP20 160-Watt DC-to-AC Power InverterJensen JP20 160-Watt DC-to-AC Power Inverter
Buy new: $29.24
Its hard to believe how I got along without something like this. Even with my extra batteries and rechargeables, I still find myself occasionally needing to plug something in when there's no plug.

I own several of them. Someone once gave me the advice of buying several 2GB rather than 1 or 2 huge cards. Then, if one goes bad, you may have lost some photos but not as many as if a larger 16MB or 32MB card goes bad.
