Families come in many different shapes and sizes, but few humans consider rodents members of the family. Dave Seville (Jason Lee) is no exception, so when this flailing musician finds three young talking chipmunks gorging themselves in his kitchen cupboards, Dave is quick to question his sanity and then toss the offending chipmunks outside into the rain and restore order. When Dave hears the chipmunks singing outside his window, he realizes that that unusual trio might just be the world's next vocal sensation and he strikes a bargain with them--the chipmunks can stay with him if they sing his songs. While chipmunks Alvin (Justin Long), Theodore (Jesse McCartney), and Simon (Matthew Gray Gubler) quickly begin to see Dave as a father figure, it's strictly a business arrangement for Dave and he maintains an appropriate emotional distance. Dave's frustration with the chipmunks mounts as they unwittingly wreak havoc on his personal life, but when Dave's old friend and record label mogul Ian (David Cross) begins to exploit the chipmunks for personal gain, Dave suddenly realizes what an important part of his life, and indeed his family, the three chipmunks have become. Hilarity reins in this live action/CGI comedy with many memorable scenes--think chipmunks showering in the dishwasher, riding in remote control planes, and bouncing off the walls under the influence of a serious caffeine buzz. Catchy Chipmunks' songs both new and old promise to lodge themselves in the minds of viewers long after the credits roll and even those none-too-enchanted with the premise of singing chipmunks can't help but be entertained by this comical film. KIDS WILL LOVE IT AND ADULTS CAN ENJOY IT!3
I was very skeptical about this film watching the trailers for it, but I must admit it's cute with a good message for kids. The Chipmunks steal the show and Jason Lee has the classic "AAAAALVIN" scream down pat! Hey let's faces it, Chipmunks talk funny and these animated critters are just so darn cute! It's a pretty basic story, but the cast and FX make this harmless movie fun. The kids should really like this one and I would bump the rating up a notch for them.

Alvin!!!4
Alvin and the Chipmunks was a favorite show of mine as a child of the 80's. Just the way Alvin was always getting into trouble was appealing to me and the show quickly won me over. The movie lived up to the hype.

The movie had some really wonderful animation. The chipmunks moving around in a real environment, and interacting with the humans was believable, and goes to show just how far technology in movie production has become in the last 10 years or so.

The movie told a really good story, but there were a couple problems I had. One of them is that, I thought Alvin was supposed to be the chipmunk that constantly gets into trouble? Well, you didn't really feel that while watching the movie. Theodore and Simon misbehaved just as often.

Also, while I was laughing at many of the jokes, I felt it could have been even funnier, especially since the guy from My Name is Earl played Dave.

Besides that, the movie delivered with adventure, excitement and everything else that makes a great family movie.

This would make a really good Christmas present. No, it's not just a Christmas movie- you can watch it over and over many times throughout the year.

My family loves this movie...5
This movie is soooo cute! My husband & I really enjoyed it & my kids (daughter aged 7 & son aged 5) sat through the whole thing, which says a lot right there. We all laughed out loud so many times. These guys are the cutest. The animation was excellent.

I've passed this movie around so other family members could enjoy it, which they did. I think almost any child would love this movie & the parents are suffering watching through a movie thinking they'd rather be doing something else. I think this is a great family movie & I'd highly recommend it.
