The H-D40 FlipUp cap clips into place by slipping the original Nikon D40 eye piece up and off the camera. Next slide the H-D40 FlipUp cap over the eyepiece mounting flanges to cover the entire LCD screen. The cap provides protection for the delicate LCD screen when in closed position. The cap flips up into a three sided hood for improved outdoor viewing.

Protective hood and hoodwinking
The actual protective hood for the nikon lcd screen is easily installed and works sufficently. Do not however deal with adorama photo they send the wrong item, refund only the price of the item and stick you with the shipping charges from thier mistake.

Protects LCD Monitor On Nikon D40 & D40X
It easily attaches to the viewfinder and covers LCD monitor snugly and protects it very well from any possible damage to it etc from occurring. The view finder cover fits tightly on viewfinder giving a snug fit. I felt that I lost some viewing site looking through it. I wear glasses and it felt a little uncomfortable but acceptable.

The Hoodman comes with own plastic cover that covers the LCD with a flip up hood which pops open for a clear view. The hood pops open with a cover located above the LCD as well as two doors that pop open to the right and left of LCD enclosing it from high lit times for easy viewing and great visual of LCD. The is a plus for this accessory. Especially on sunny days or back lit rooms and you need to view your shot on the LCD.

The part I did not like was that you had to close the doors/covers to get a good view through the viewfinder and if you are one of those photographers that needs to view each and every shot, you will get frustrated having to open and close the hood. This is for the shooters who shoot and check their shots after they are all done or download it to their PCs etc. and then view. So patience is a virtue for this hood and that is why I gave it a 4 star versus a 5 star. I am a little impatient. That's my problem and not the hoods. I do recommend this Hood Cover for the Nikon D40 & D40X etc.

Excellent product.
I wanted such an item to protect the LCD screen from inadvertent damage. This Hoodman Cover was just the item.

Easy to mount onto the camera, easy to open and close, durable.
