The tripod is made from 6X Carbon fiber which maximizes rigidity, vibration absorption, and lightweight performance. The Gitzo carbon fiber tubes use an exclusive process to ensure stiff, light tubes resistant to bending, with good tensile and compression strength, a high degree of stability in extreme temperatures, vibration absorption, withstanding fatigue better than other carbon fiber tube processes. Features

• ALR - A new Anti Leg Rotation system, which means the tripod can be opened in less than 15 seconds. Simply loosen all the twist locks on each leg at the same time, then pull the leg down and tighten the locks individually.
• G-Lock: The Gitzo leg locking system has been completely redesigned in order to achieve a 20% increase in rigidity, faster operation and stronger, safer locking. G-Lock's special design also provides a "gravity lock" effect: the higher the load applied vertically to the leg, the stronger the lock.
• Leg Ends: This is the removable rubber feet provided with the tripod. This feature allows you to easily change worn out rubber feet or to fit other accessories, such as spiked feet or snow/sand shoes.

Equally expensive and wonderful
Warning to all who enter here: you are on a slippery slope to madness!

I made the mistake of lifting this strobe while at a camera story. Four pounds, stable as a rock, and it just *feels* great. What's on offer here is just the beginning. By the time you're done, you'll have a head, a center post, some spikes, ... Everything just works flawlessly: the leg locks, the off-center ball head pan and adjust, the center post lock, etc. You'll be poor, but happy. The (now complete) tripod is one of my favorite possessions.

Could you get something for less? Yup! Would it be as light? Nope! Would it be as sturdy? Only if you were willing to carry a VERY heavy tripod. Is carbon fiber the coolest thing on the planet? You betcha.
