What is SDHC?

To support the higher capacity needs, SD cards are now requiring a different design. The new SD 2.0 specifications - which supports 4GB and up - is called Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC). The SD Association has created and defined 3 speed classes to help you identify speed and performance capabilities/minimum requirements of SDHC cards and their SDHC host products.

Cards address data (read and write) at numerous speeds. Many factors impede this performance. SDHC guarantees a minimum read and write speed necessary to handle recording high quality video and audio. The maximum card speed may vary, but you can always depend on SDHC cards to meet your SDHC host product's high quality performance requirements.

SDHC Compatibility Information

Because SDHC works differently (supports the new higher capacity cards) this new card format is not backwards compatible with legacy SD format host devices.

Beware: Not supported on Windows XP
Beware: Not supported on Windows XP. Dense SDHCs over 2 Gb have no effective driver available from Microsoft as yet. The sole Windows XP patch offered does not allow your computer to recognize high density [>2 Gb] cards.

Product fine, not seller
This item sells as a unit (card & reader. It was advertised as a special by SanDisk all over the web. When I checked out I saw that the seller billed the items separately. I canceled immediately. The seller sent the item anyway. I ordered the items from B&H. Photo. It was properly sold as a unit by them. The card and reader work great, however, I don't like the business practices of the seller.

SanDisk 8GB SDHC memory card
This is a wonderful card, but be warned that the MicroMate reader is no longer included. The SanDisk SDHC card is from a well respected company, and 8GB is lots of storage space for a memory card. I'd recommend this to anyone needing some extra storage.
