Great product, low price
I upgraded to D40 from a Coolpix 8700 and it was the right decision, I'm very pleased with this camera. Even though it's not pro, I feel the quality of the pictures is very good and for this reason I don't think I'll have to buy another camera body in a long time (hopefully!). Instead, my next investment will be on lenses, although the two that came with the package are awesome.
I feel like most of the time people spend $700 on just the body of a nice camera like this, so paying less than that for 2 lenses, camera body, memory card, bag, plus a couple other things is a really good deal. I seriously think of it everytime I grab the camera, I feel like I ripped them off or something!
Bottomline: the D40 is the way to go for someone that wants to have control over the pictures taken, but doesn't really need a pro camera (D80 and up, Nikon is what I know better). The D40x and the D60 are more expensive versions of the D40 and aren't really that different (more megapixels is pretty much the only thing...). I doubt you'll find a better price for a new D40 with all the accesories than this Cameta Camera offer.

very good camera, stupid lens cap design
Nothing to add about how the camera functions, it's fine as described in the other reviews. However no one mentioned that the lens cap is not attached by a cord and there's no place to string one onto it. It also falls off easily. I expect it will be lost within a month if I don't find a way to velcro it onto the camera body when in use.

Great Camera
Bought this camera before we went overseas. Without reading the manuals was able to get great photos and came back with a large amount of Great Shots! Would recommend this camera to anyone getting started in SLR's. I previously had a manual Pentax. This camera between the amount of photos and the ease of use is a Great Camera.
