Won't quite cut it...2
I was looking for something inexpensive to replace my well used 9 year old Slik U8000 and came across the Savage, at an attractive price. I usually understand that you get what you pay for, but being on a budget, I took the plunge anyway. At first inspection I immediately noticed the light weight, low quality plastic casting and construction. Once opened and erect I discovered its narrow footprint which made for an unstable structure. The pan head is cheap and anything but fluid. But, you may ask, "what do you expect for $33?" Well, this is what I should have expected. However, If you do some searching, you can find a far superior Slik U8000 for around $40 (retail $70). The Slik doesn't have some of the 'features', like a nifty handle or a leveling bubble, but it's still a far better deal when quality and usablility is a concern.

The Savage is tall, light, and has some nice features, but the overall design and quality leave much to be desired. This one will go in my trunk as a back-up to another Slik.
