Amazon.com Product Description
The Sigma APO 70-300mm f4-5.6 DG Macro Lens for Minolta Digital SLR Cameras is a telephoto zoom lens with tele-macro functionality. Optimized for digital cameras, this high-performance lens has two Special Low Dispersion (SLD) glass elements in the front lens group and one in the rear lens group. It is able to shoot with maximum magnification 1:2 at the focal length of 300 millimeters. It's the ideal lens for portraits, sports photography, nature photography, and other types of photography that frequently use the telephoto range.

The multi-layer lens coating and lens design reduce flare and ghosting, which is a common problem with digital cameras, and it also creates an optimum color balance through the entire zoom range. High optical performance is demonstrated throughout the entire zoom range. The lens features a switch that converts the lens to macro photography at focal lengths between 200 millimeters and 300 millimeters, with a minimum focusing distance of 37.4 inches. In normal mode the minimum focusing distance is 59.1 inches at all zoom settings.

Customer Reviews

Great Lens5
The lens is a good value. I like the photos that I took with it. It is not too large to carry in a standard bag, but you DO need a shorter lens with you. This is too powerful for many routine shots. It is not quite to the "must have tripod" power, but it is nice to use one if you have the capability to lug one along.

Great Lens - I now won't settle for less magnification5
I really like being able to have the extra 100mm focal length beyond the traditional 200 or 210mm. I have used it numerous times in conjunction with the image stabilization of my Sony A100 to get some shots I could not have previously obtained (including shots of Alaskan whales). Also, the lens survived landing on asphalt with its UV lens protector becoming history. I removed the protector and was amazed to find that the lens still worked perfectly!

Poor packaging1
This lens was not packaged securely and was knocking around during transit in an oversized box. Very dissapointed and now worried if damage was done and will this lens last long. Never again with this place.
