Too big and too small
I ordered the Kata HB-207 GDC Hiker Backpack because my laptop would not fit in the R-103.
Unfortunately, it doesn't fit in this bag, either. My Dell Inspiron is 14" x 10-1/4" x 1-1/2". If the laptop section was just a tad deeper, my computer would fit, but it doesn't. Given how immense this bag is, it seems poorly thought-out to make the laptop compartment so thin.
It would be really helpful if they would give the maximum laptop size that would fit in the item description - all three dimensions.
Speaking of dimensions, the Amazon description of this bag is incorrect. It says it's 20". It's actually 25". I measured it myself, and the Kata specs say 25", too. (I should have checked with Kata before I ordered.) That makes this a really huge bag. Bigger than airline carry-on rules allow. While carry-on rules usually aren't strictly enforced, I wouldn't want to take the chance. Especially since airlines seem to be cracking down on everything these days. Plus, I just don't want to lug around a bag this large.
I returned it, and bought the Lowepro Rolling CompuTrekker Plus AW Camera Bag instead. So far, I am very happy with it.
very well built but giant
Kata products are unbelievably well thought through and the build quality is fantanstic. Be aware that they are made for a very large males, and are heavy. I'm 5'5" and had to return the HB-207 because it was huge, and wouldn't fit my frame.
There are tons of pockets, straps, interior accesories like mesh bags with velcro that come with the pack that I didn't expect. If the size will work for you, the "systems" kata offers are like nothing else available.
HB-207, just to large for normal use
This backpack is great. It secures everything you'll put in perfectly. It is convenient it is comfortable, etc. The only thing I somehow missed it is so BIG, LARGE, HUGE!!!!!
It is like carrying truck on your back.
It is really perfect... I guess for a profi holding several bodies and lenses and tripod and flash and laptop and... and.... and...
And it seems to be just to large for us normal humans............
