Note that the HB-33 hood has been discontinued by Nikon. The replacement is the HB-45, which costs about the same.

Wonderfully designed lens hood
A basic lens hood to reduce side light glare built to excellent standards. A simple click and the hood locks tight against the lens body. Much higher quality than I was expecting. Fits the Nikon D40 stock lens.

It does the job
This hood, for the 18-55mm DX lens is a bit smaller than the hood for my 55-200mm DX AF-S VR lens. It doesn't fit the longer lens even though they are both 52mm diameter. One thing that is nice is that you can 'store' it by flipping it around and attaching it to end of the lens (hood opening facing the camera body); although I'd remove it entirely if your shooting with the camera's built-in flash.
