Editorial Reviews
From the Manufacturer
Digital photographers interested in taking their first foray into SLR-styled cameras should pay special attention to the FinePix S5200. Equipped with 5.1 megapixels of resolution, a 10x optical zoom, and technology that suppresses camera shake and blur caused by subject movement, the FinePix S5200 offers an excellent entry point into the world of feature-rich cameras without losing its operational simplicity.
Highlight features of the FinePix 5200 include:
Real Photo Technology
Real Photo Technology captures treasured moments just as your eye sees them. Combining the Fujifilm's new RP Processor, 5th Generation Super CCD HR sensor and Fujinon Lens Optics, the S5200 delivers ultra-high sensitivity (ISO 1600), faster operational speeds (start-up in 1.1 seconds; shutter lag at a mere 0.01 second) and reduced power consumption. This will allow the shooter to get just about every shot, capturing priceless memories as photographs with every nuance of light and color, even in low-light situations without a flash using the camera's special "Natural Light" and "Anti-Blur" modes.
Fujinon Lens Technology & Zooming
The superb optics of the Fujinon lens collects light and precisely forms the image in conjunction with a 5th Generation Super CCD HR. Users can bring the subject closer to them using the camera's 10.0x optical zoom (equivalent to a 38-380mm on a 35mm camera). In Macro mode, the FinePix S5200 can focus clearly at 3.9 inches. With the addition of beam assist, the FinePix S5200 can focus up to 7.9 feet, even in low light conditions.
The FinePix S5200 offers an optional wide-angle lens adapter, which increases the performance of this model for any user. (Not included--must be purchased separately.)

Buena camara ... pero sin lentes intercambiables...
Excelente cámara solo que los menú de enfoque digital son un tanto complicados... una camara para principiantes que deseen conocer la fotografia paso a paso y que deseen profundizar...
Great camera for the price I got it for!
I got this used from a seller on Amazon.com and the camera was in near perfect condition. This is my impression of the camera after a couple of weeks of trying everything out...
First off, the camera has a hefty feel to it, and of just the right size in my hands that would help in stablizing shots- unlike those tiny pocket cameras that would be like trying to take photos with a pack of gums.
Set at 1600x1200 resolution, the camera powered up without any delay while follow up single shots took less than two seconds to refresh before ready again; not bad.
Compared to my older Olympus, the close up was not up to par- that could have been better.
Even though the 'Anti-Blur' feature is not true stablization, and only a faster shutter, it worked just fine for my purpose.
Then, the low-light setting allowed me to take photos inside some of the near dark areas within the Monterey Bay Aquarium that throughly impressed the heck out of me.
Overall, I am extremely happy with the camera and I would readily recommend it to others.
The two major and one minor complains I have for the camera are
1) The use of XD cards instead of the more popular and far cheaper SD cards limited me to using only 2Mb memory- the largest available for XDs; even though I got great deals from J&R Music World at less than eight bucks apiece, I would have like to use something along the size of 8Mb-16Mb.
2) The two zoom in and out buttons are located on the back of the camera, just above all the rest of the controls. Unlike my Olympus and other camera, where the zoom controls are located on the top right hand side where it could be controlled by my trigger finger. The Finepix's control forced me to use my thumb to rock back and fore, thus lessening my firm hold on the camera and possibly messing up shots. And if I am to use the optical view finder, then, the zoom buttons would be right up against my cheek and making any zooming corrections a real pain- and that's putting my thumb too close to my eye for comfort! The near perfect position for my right thumb would be to rest firmly on that small dimpled square area right below the zoom buttons and if I didn't have to move my thumb, all would be well; unfortunately, I have to shift my thumb upward to adjust.
3) Finally, I like the option to use aftermarket flash but the Fuji Finepix does not have a build-in hot shoe, once again, unlike my Olympus. I have to depend on the less than ideal build-in pop-up flash that, in my opinion, is still too close to the camera lens and is completely non-adjustable.
With those complains aside, I would still recommend this camera because it is handy enough for me to whip up and take fast shots but still allows me to exercise a lot of control over how I would like to take the photos. And at the discounted prices available here from Amazon.com, it's a hard deal to beat.
AMAZING Hi-Zoom Camera!! I'm so proud I bought this well engineered product!
I've got so many good things to say about this Camera, I really don't know where to start.
I bought this camera 3 years ago. I hadn't really had any experience with any Fuji cameras before. I had played around with my friends' cameras before I bought this camera; they had Non-SLR Hi-Zoom cameras that were made for medium duty photography. Many of these cameras were Canons or Nikons with lots of zoom and nice features. So eventually I decided to buy a camera in this same class, just I didn't know which one. So rather than searching for a digital camera based solely on the popularity of the name, I decided to take a shot at this product based on the Specs and Features that it had. At the time this camera had more features, options, and abilities than other cameras in its class. So I decided to buy this Fujifilm S5200 right here on Amazon.
3 years later... NO REGRETS. Ever since the first week I received this camera, I fell in love with it and all of the options it had in it. When I want a camera that I can just take some quick everyday pictures, it's GREAT. When I want a camera that I can take some technical, high-quality images, it's AWESOME! The S5200 can be simple and fun for you, BUT also complex and technical if you want it to be so. It is an EXREMELY versatile camera.
It has TONS of Optical Zoom, as well as the Digital Zoom on top of that. I must say, if you choose to use the Digital Zoom (and zoom in even furthermore) you will NOT be disappointed. The Digital Zoom processor in these Fujifilm cameras is Excellent in my opinion. I have digitally zoomed into many objects and taken pictures of them that are still very clear and impressive. The S5200 has Digital Zoom with noticeably LESS graininess than its competitors. And of course its Fujinon 10X Optical Zoom lens has beautiful flawless clarity. NO SHORTCOMINGS with the S5200's zoom system.
Many options to play with Exposure, ISO, shutter speeds, many flash options, etc. You can also choose to do sound recordings and video recordings! Single Shot, Multiple Shot, and Continuous Shot picture taking modes. The S5200 uses 4x AA batteries, alkaline OR rechargeable Nickel-Metal Hydride. And I can tell you from experience, that the power consumption of this camera is FAR more efficient than its Nikon and Canon competitors. I have gone through days where I took hundreds of pictures (some with flash, some without) and I still had a little battery power left.
There are various Automatic Focus modes, as well as Manual Focus whenever you so desire. NOTE: Don't get confused with the Big Fat lens on this camera! The Manual Focus is adjusted electronically with 2 buttons, NOT ON A FOCUS RING (as there is none). Adjusting the Manual Focus with the 2 Buttons works just fine in my opinion.
The camera is very sturdy and durable, though of course be gentle with it as you would with all electronics. Nothing loose or flimsy and cheap. Over my 3 years owning and using this, nothing has gone wrong. Nothing broken, nothing loose, nothing cracked. You can buy a nice black leather case made by Fujifilm specially to encase the Fuji S series cameras. Fuji also makes a Wide-Angle Lens adapter for the S5200, if you want to do wide shots of landscapes and such.
The final thing I must comment on about this whole experience is VERY important. The camera Drivers and Fujifilm FinePix Software have both performed EXCELLENT. The drivers work great and they never glitched up or caused any problems with my PC. The computer reads the S5200 instantly and boom you're good to go. You can transfer the pictures via Windows reading the S5200 as removable storage OR you can have the awesome, straight-forward FinePix software move them over for you.
At first I was somewhat skeptical about the FinePix software. But I ended up playing with the software eventually, messing around with its features and such. I end up finding out that it's actually a very GOOD and USEFULL piece of software. It's got options that let you manage the interfacing of the camera to your computer. The FinePix software also has a great set of features for adjusting and tweaking your photos to perfection. You can view all the technical details of a photo and adjust many qualities of photos easily and quickly right there in the software. What I like most about the FinePix software is the set of tools which greatly help me organize my photos. Rotation, File Numbering, Resolution Adjustments, etc. are as easy as 1-2-3 for just 1 file or multiple files. A surprisingly good piece of software from Fujifilm!
5/5 STARS, no doubt in my mind!
Thank you Fujifilm for this great product!
Thank you Amazon for a great price!
