Lightweight, pretty stable
I bought this tripod for my son to use with his Nikon D-80 and 70-300mm lens. I compared this unit to a number of tripods ranging from $75 to $300, and found this to be the best stability for the price. I previously used Bogen 3000 series tripods, and this is not in the same class, however it costs hundreds less and is about 4 pounds lighter. All in all, I have found this very usable for an SLR camera, especially when coupled with a remote release. There is some minor shake when using a long lens on an SLR when touching the camera, but it settles out quickly. In a stiff wind this is an issue.
The quick release is very solid, and is all metal. It locks in securely and there is no doubt that is it on correctly. The leg clamps are quick and easy to use, but are plastic and not too beefy.
As an aside. I recently purchased a new tripod for myself, a Bushnell Advanced Titanium, and it turns out to the the exact same tripod, only with titanium legs, for a total weight of 3.6 pounds. So I like this tripod so much that I picked it out twice.
Nice Tripod but be Careful!
This is a nice tripod for under $100. It did take some getting use to. Once I learned how to set the tripod up, it has been easy to set up and take down. I like the foam on the legs.
Do be careful how the weight is distributed on the tripod! I almost had my tripod tip with the camera (with flash and teleconverter) on it. Luckily, I was inside when my near mishap happened.
