Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com
Just a one-disc sampling of Bacharach's definitive three-CD box The Look of Love, this collection nonetheless captures some of the most essential of his writing collaborations with lyricist Hal David. Among them are a half-dozen of the greatest singles the two conjured for Dionne Warwick in the '60s; from the sorrowful "Anyone Who Had a Heart" to the bittersweet "Do You Know the Way to San Jose" and the savvy "I'll Never Fall in Love Again," they're among the best examples of postwar pop. The A-1 quality only flags on the final three lugubrious tracks. The Very Best is a mostly appealing selection, but it's hard not to feel that the title should instead appear on a full platter of Warwick classics. --Rickey Wright

Customer Reviews

Good old songs from Burt Bacharach4
My children wonders why I bought songs which I can find in TV commercials. I told them that it is because these songs are so good that advertising companies cannot help "borrow" the songs.

60,s sound and writing at its best5
Bert Bacharach is a song writers idol. he is best known during the mid to late 60's with songs like... " The look of love" ,proformed by Dusty Springfield. So many hits on this one album... I loved it !

Stepping Back to the Mid-60s4
Anyone who misses or never experienced the hipster side of the mid-60s should get a hold of this CD. There are lots of Bacharach favorites here featuring the original singers and recaordings. All that's missing are the martini and the go-go girls dancing in the cages. Oh, behave!
