About the Author
Carolyn Williams, a native of Jacksonville, is an Associate Professor of History at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville.
She is a past member of the Florida Historical Commission and the Jacksonville Historic Preservation Commission. Currently she is the chair of the Northeast Florida Advisory Board and a member of the Florida State Historical Marker Council. She has published articles in Anthologies of American History and contributed entries to the Encyclopedia of American Cultural and Intellectual History and The Oxford Companion to United States History.
